AnyPS5 vs KytyPS5: What's the Difference?

By AnyPS5 Progress Tracker · Data updated

AnyPS5 is a translation-by-relinking tool: it turns a PS5 executable into a native PC program. KytyPS5 is an emulator: it runs the PS5 executable inside its own runtime.

Method: relinking vs emulation

Both rely on the same fact: the PS5's Zen 2 CPU speaks x86-64, so game code can run directly on a PC processor. The difference is where the work happens.

  • AnyPS5 does the work ahead of time. The relinker rewrites the executable into a Windows PE or Linux ELF, and AnyPS5's own system libraries are linked in like normal DLLs/shared objects. The result is a standalone native program.
  • KytyPS5 loads the original executable at runtime and provides the PS5 environment around it, as emulators do.

Status today

AnyPS5's official compatibility list verifies 1 game (Dreaming Sarah). KytyPS5's README states it “can boot 2D games and a selection of 3D games”. These are different kinds of evidence — a verified playable list versus a statement about booting — so they are not directly comparable.

Which one is for you?

  • Choose AnyPS5 if you are interested in native ports, want a Linux or Windows binary you can inspect, or want to contribute library implementations.
  • Choose KytyPS5 if you want to try booting a wider range of titles inside an emulator.

AnyPS5 vs KytyPS5 FAQ

Is AnyPS5 better than KytyPS5?

They solve the problem differently. AnyPS5 produces native programs with no emulation layer but officially verifies very few games; KytyPS5 is an emulator whose README says it boots 2D games and a selection of 3D games. Pick based on what you want to try.

Is KytyPS5 the same as Kyty?

No. KytyPS5 (github.com/KytyPS5/KytyPS5) is a separate project based on a heavily modified version of Kyty. The original Kyty (InoriRus/Kyty) has not been updated since May 2024.

Can I use the same game files with both?

Both need a PS5 game you legally own; neither ships game content. Their input requirements and setup differ, so follow each project's own documentation.
