Short answer: the AnyPS5 code itself is designed to contain no Sony material, but using it involves game files and console data that raise separate legal questions. This page is general information, not legal advice.

This project is intended for interoperability, research, preservation, and compatibility purposes. It does not include, distribute, or require copyrighted software, firmware, cryptographic keys, or proprietary libraries. Users are responsible for ensuring that any binaries used with this project are obtained and used in accordance with applicable laws and their respective license terms.
The project is licensed under GPL-2.0.

What has not been tested
- No court has ruled on relinking console executables into native PC programs.
- We have not found a public response from Sony as of Oct 9, 2026; silence is not approval, and projects in this space have been taken down before.
- Third-party ports of specific games (for example, the reported Dead Cells build) carry extra risk because they may redistribute converted game code.
